Pickering High Street
Well, it at least 8 pubs (our favourite is just round the corner - the Sun Inn (which has recently be recommended by CAMRA for a top day out). There are excellent coffee and tea rooms (and a great new deli next door to the White Swan called Feast) and loads of restaurants (English,  Indian to Italian). And a new ice cream/tea shop called Lazy-Sundae

Gardens in Pickering
Two cycle shops (including Big Bear Bikes round the corner) and a great outdoors shop for walkers.  It even has a castle ...........

The obvious place to go though is the steam railway. And there's fishing in the local trout lake.

You don't have to be a train spotter to appreciate the magnificent engines (here on video). You can even travel by one to Whitby for fish and chips in the magpie cafe!   Or you can take a boat out?   It is worth taking a stroll to Pickering Church; you will be able to see it's spire looming up on your arrival in the town. The Saxon church has some amazing 15th century wall paintings. Pickering also has the fascinating Beck Isle Museum of Rural Life well worth an afternoon (and 100 yards away).

Why not try walking and cycling in Dalby Forest ? Or just walking around the bridestones?

If you just like staring at the stars, why not try Stargazing  in the forest?

For a romantic weekend you really must try the carriage rides  through the forest.
